What else can I say that hasn't been said already? The answer is: nothing. But what the heck, I will say it anyway. Heath Ledger simply rocked. His portrayal of The Joker left me very impressed and, like everyone who has watched the movie will agree, I think he makes the movie.
And you might think, as I did before watching it, that maybe it was just the hype, the build-up, that his death brought to the already much-awaited release of The Dark Knight. But it isn't. I bet though, that in part yes, it definitely has to do with it, and whoever says otherwise is a big fat liar. Come on, just tell the truth, it did influence you to go watch it. If you were thinking "I might go watch TDK" now you said "Dude, I HAVE to go watch it, that was Ledger's last finished movie, bla bla bla"
Now, to be really really honest with you, I think that Ledger's new version of The Joker did not surpass Jack Nicholson's 1989 version. Note that I am NOT saying that Nicholson's is better. Nuh-uh. I am saying that I am having a hard time deciding who is better at being badder. Both of them are equally evil, merciless, remorseless, you could say intelligent? So, mix that unpredictable and you get the perfect villain. Pretty scary. Who doesn't remember the 'Bob? Gun' scene from 1989's Batman? Now, in 2008, the 'I can make this pencil disappear' scene made me jump from my seat! It made me feel relieved in a way. That means there is still some movie-related-violence innocence left in me.
Now go, buy your ticket, watch the movie. You have to and you know it.
